Steve Park came from the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour where he had 15 wins, 22 poles and won the Most Popular Driver award in 1995. He's also won two NASCAR Busch North Series races in only nine starts. He won his first Modified race in 1988, then earned five victories in 1989, all in his own equipment and with his own team. He then sold his Modified equipment and acquired a third-hand NASCAR Busch Series car.
A blown engine at New Hampshire signaled the end of the unsponsored NASCAR Busch Series venture. The rideless Park started going to the track to help on his father's car. Modified owner Curt Chase noticed the younger Park hanging out in the pits and asked him to drive his car. After spending 1991 and 1992 with Chase, Park moved to TG Racing, where he won 14 times in two years. In 1995, Park posted seven victories with Sheba Racing and five the following year. He also competed in 11 races in the NASCAR Busch North Series in 1996, taking the checkers first at Nazareth and New Hampshire. |
