Stella was sculpture student in London when British Vogue asked her to pose for fashion photos, She had no idea what she was getting herself into. But a month later, when Italian Vogue suggested she do their cover, she decided that her passion for art could perhaps cohabit with the more lucratice activity of modeling. "I saw that photography could lead to something, "she said, "and I went to Paris to register with the Marilyn Agency." Since then, Ms Tennant has found it hard to organize her shooting priorities. When she started doing the shows, her steely cyber-punk persona, the aura of her pale face, and her swaying gait quickly made her the spearhead of a new species of models.
It has been two years already ! Since then, she's gone to the other extreme:She recently became the second model (seven years after Ines de la Fressange) to win an exclusince contract with the elegant house of Chanel. Last season, Karl Lagerfeld chose her to become his muse, as well as the conpany's ready-to-wear image. "Karl is a fascinating man," she says, "full of energy, who shows the same enthusiasn for everthing he gets involveds with. I've learned a lot working with him.".
The granddaughter of aristocrats, Stella was born in the heart of England's countryside. But it wasn't long before she conquered France. At the Ritz, in Paris, in front of an audience largely composed of the stars and artists of the fashion world, Stella startled everyone when she presented the most beautiful couture dresses of the season, which were designed by Lagerfeld for Chanel. Whether she was wearing pearls, gold lame, or the little suit revisited, the mix of elegance and modernity displayed by the debutante didn't escape the attention of the audience. All that adoration might be enough to make Stella's lovely head spin. But as the grandaughter of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and a cousin of Lady Di, she's taking it all in royal stride.
